Just a short post to highlight the upcoming Irish IPv6 Summit (May 19th 2010) in Dublin Castle.
There have been some interesting happenings in the IPv6 world recently. Like this article on “IPv4’s Last Day: What Will Happen When There Is Only IPv6?” and for a followup the SlashDot crew give you the full spectrum of thoughts in the tech world in relation to the depletion of IPv4 addresses.
Over at the ITU-T there’s a new IPv6 Group, and from its most recent meeting in March two “correspondence groups” were created to continue the discussion before its next meeting, beginning September 1, 2010.
The first correspondence group is to start developing an ITU Development Sector project to do capacity building to help developing countries to implement IPv6 deployment. The second correspondence group is assigned to identify specific cases where member states have identified a problem obtaining IPv6 addresses, and to study ways of dealing with those problems.
Of course there are those that point out the very slow transition towards IPV6 from IPv4 is a market success, and IPv6’s failure also it may appear that IPv6 has been “Lost” for a decade.
The purpose of this Irish IPv6 summit is to address all these topics and to help organisations understand this up and coming minefield.

April 28th, 2010Kilkenny Cat Laughs Comedy festival June 3-7 2010
April 25th, 2010The Kilkenny Cat Laughs Comedy festival is something I try an go to ever year and its about now that it’s a good time to look at the festival schedule [pdf]. Now I was recently asked by Dez “who’s going to be funny this year?” and I must admit for me this is an impossible question to answer as comedy, and good comedy can mean so many different things to different people. But what I will do is suggest the 1 or 2 shows I would like to see.
Now off the bat I usually look for a session with 3 comedians, and most preferable when at least one of the acts is female. The reason I do this is that when Anne comes with me its always good fun when the jokes are directed at the MALE species! One final criteria is the “later the better”. The are two reasons for this, it’s a little bit of spin up from Mooncoin to Kilkenny city and the fact that the more punch drunk people are in the session the better the craic.
So when I look at this years schedule (in date order) the following sessions pop out:
1) Friday June 4th 8.30pm (Village Inn) Coiln Murphy, Eleanor Tiernan, Eric Lalor, Ian Coppinger
2) Friday June 4th 10.15pm (Cleeto’s) Maeve Higgins, Mike Wilmot, Rich Hall, Simon Amstell
3) Saturday June 5th 9.00pm (Kilford Arms) Dermot Whelan, John Lynn, Mike Wilmot, Sarah Millican
4) Saturday June 5th 10.30pm (Ormonde Venue Bar) Barry Murphy, Dead Cat Bounce, Eleanor Tiernan, Neil Delamere, Tim Key
5) Sunday June 6th 10.45pm (Ormonde Killbride Suite) Des Bishop, Ian Coppinger, Mike Flanagan, Sarah Millican
Looking at it now my preference would be towardsSaturday night and the 10.30pm session in the Ormonde Venue Bar with Barry Murphy, Dead Cat Bounce, Eleanor Tiernan, Neil Delamere, Tim Key

April 18th, 2010Kids in a New York Playground:- Nerve Recking
April 11th, 2010Over the Easter we had the pleasure of attending Aileen’s surprise birthday party which was held in Queens, New York. Just across the road from the venue there was a playground, perfect I thought …… not so perfect when I got Kate, Mia & Daniel there. It was sheer madness trying to keep eyes on all 3 of them, but in the end I guess we all had some fun!
NYC Pillow Fight 2010
April 3rd, 2010I’ve just about recovered from the NYC Pillow fight 2010, I’ve mentioned it to a few people and I know from their reaction they don’t quite get it, but who cares I thought it was great FUN
It started with a train ride and some beer, then made it on location
There was the crowd to deal with
And the competitors
And by survive, I mean the eating, bar hoping, betting and iPadding and eating (again) we did after the pillow fight!
